The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) declared a red alert from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a yellow alert issued from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A red alert means that there is not enough power supply to meet consumer demand, potentially leading to power outages. Meanwhile, a yellow alert signifies that the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s regulatory and contingency requirements.

The Luzon grid had an available capacity of 12,186 MW, while the recorded peak demand was 12,468 MW, resulting in a 282 MW deficit. The NGCP reported that five power plants were on forced outage, and three others were running on derated capacities, causing 1,354 MW of power to be unavailable to the grid. The NGCP and the Department of Energy (DOE) have not yet released a list of the plants on forced outage.

Given the high cost of generators, it is not economically feasible to obtain one at this time. Therefore, all affected students during power interruptions will have makeup classes until we have a sufficient budget to purchase a generator and backup internet.
