The Joy of Delayed Gratification in Streaming
Reflections on Modern Viewing Habits
I’m not a huge movie buff, but I enjoy watching a variety of movies and TV shows. I previously worked in customer support at Blockbuster Online for nearly 13 months before shifting to PC safety. Recently, while catching “The Boys” and “Marry My Husband” on Amazon Prime Video, I noticed something interesting.
Weekly Episodes vs. Binge-Watching
Both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video release episodes weekly, but I believe Amazon handles it better. In today’s binge-watching culture, spacing out episodes allows for reflection and discussion after each episode.
The Value of Delayed Gratification
Delayed gratification, once more common, seems rarer now. In the past, commercials during TV shows provided breaks, making the return of the show more special after waiting a week or more. Nowadays, instant gratification dominates, affecting satisfaction in personal and professional life.
Personal Reflections
After finishing “The Boys,” I began “Marry My Husband,” a Korean drama with a compelling story. Instead of binge-watching, I chose to savor each episode, which deepened my appreciation.
Lessons from Past Experiences
Though not religious, I find wisdom in some teachings. As a former Young Disciple of Christ (YDC), I learned the value of patience—sometimes the answer is “yes,” “no,” or “wait.” Patience enhances appreciation and strengthens connections with others.
