IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Teachers

Do you want to be a teacher in the future?
Hmm, I don’t think so. I mean, I have a lot of respect for teachers—they do so much, you know? But I don’t think it’s the right fit for me. Teaching requires so much patience, and you really have to be passionate about helping others learn. It’s an amazing profession, but I guess my interests lie elsewhere, like business or something more hands-on. That said, if I ever did become a teacher, I think it’d be fun to teach something creative or practical, like entrepreneurship or problem-solving. But yeah, as of now, it’s not something I’m planning for.
Do you have a teacher from your past that you still remember?
Oh, absolutely! There was this one teacher in high school—Mrs. Adams. She taught English, and honestly, she was just amazing. She had this way of making literature come alive, you know? Like, she didn’t just teach the material; she made us think about it in new ways. And she always encouraged us to express ourselves, which was so inspiring. I think what really stuck with me was how much she cared about each of us as individuals. It wasn’t just about grades—it felt like she genuinely wanted us to succeed in life.
Are you still in touch with your primary school teachers?
Not really, no. I mean, I have fond memories of a few of them, but it’s been so long, you know? And people move, and life just gets busy. Oh, but I do remember seeing one of my old teachers at a community event years ago—it was such a nice surprise! We had a quick chat, and it was kind of heartwarming that she still remembered me. But yeah, I guess staying in touch hasn’t been something I’ve done, even though I really appreciate the impact they had on my early education.
In what way has your favourite teacher helped you?
Oh, in so many ways! My favorite teacher, Mr. Roberts, really helped me build confidence in myself. He taught history, but it wasn’t just about dates and facts—it was about the lessons we could take from the past. I remember struggling with public speaking, and he pushed me to present a project in front of the class. I was so nervous, but he encouraged me the whole way through. It ended up being a turning point for me. He made me realize that growth comes from stepping out of your comfort zone. I’ll never forget that.
Do you have a favorite teacher?
Oh, for sure! My favorite teacher has to be Mrs. Carter from middle school. She taught science, and she had this incredible energy about her. You know, like, she made even the most boring topics seem interesting. What I really liked about her was how she always found a way to connect with every student. Oh, and she had this great sense of humor—it made her class so much fun. I think she’s my favorite because she made learning enjoyable and showed me how exciting it can be to explore new ideas. Teachers like that are rare, you know?
