IELTS Speaking Part 1: Childhood Memory

IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Childhood Memory

1. What did you enjoy doing as a child?

  • When I was a child, I was very easy to please. A good meal and watching my favorite TV shows, especially on Saturdays, were things I enjoyed the most. I remember my mom making chicken nuggets, and that was always a highlight of my day because it was a rare treat. If we got extra TV time, it was the best day of the week. Taking naps, though not something I enjoyed back then, is now something I appreciate as an adult. It’s funny how that changed over time.
  • One of my highlights as a child was playing football with my friends. Back then, there was no pressure to study hard, achieve high scores, or worry about future job prospects. Playing football was simply about being a child and living in the moment. Everyone was happy, and even though we didn’t win all the time, it was still a lot of fun and something we looked forward to.

2. Did you enjoy your childhood?

  • Overall, I would say I enjoyed my childhood. Although there were some missed opportunities due to our financial situation and family setup, I managed to make up for it as I got older. My family was very supportive and loving, so I had a great time. I often reminisce about my childhood and apply those experiences as a father to my own family, hoping they will pass them on to future generations.
  • Overall, I would say I had a good childhood. I grew up in a stable environment; my parents were not abusive, unlike what I’ve seen on the news. I had a good number of friends, and my parents provided everything I needed. I never felt hungry, cold, or homeless. So, I believe my childhood was great, and we also had many vacations.

3. What are your best childhood memories?

  • I have many fond childhood memories. One of the best was when I was six years old and we moved to a new house. It was our first time having a bigger place, and it was close to the city, so we could easily buy things we wanted and have fun exploring stores. Another great memory was having overnight vacations with my cousins. We would play all day long, and those times were filled with joy. Probably the best memory was my first day of school. It was a life-changing experience with many memorable moments.
  • Besides football, there are other childhood memories that I might not remember clearly. However, some of the best memories include my graduation, visiting places for the first time, such as amusement parks or the zoo. These first-time experiences often stick with you the most.

4. Do you think it is better for children to grow up in the city or in the countryside?

  • That’s a complicated question. I grew up in the city and now think I would have preferred the countryside. Growing up with a lot of entertainment early on made me want more as an adult. If I had grown up in the countryside with fewer technological distractions, I might have enjoyed moving to the city more when I was older. Delayed gratification seems better than enjoying everything at a young age.
  • I believe that the location itself is not as important. From what I’ve read about parenting, what really matters is having supportive parents. Whether in a city or countryside, the key factor is the support and presence of the people around you.
