IELTS Speaking Part 1: Breakfast

IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Breakfast

1. What do you usually eat for breakfast?

  • Well, ever since I can remember, I’ve had a big appetite during breakfast. My mom usually gives me at least two cups of rice or two rice balls, two sausages, and an egg. This has been my breakfast for almost three decades. It’s funny because my mom always asks how I can survive by just eating hot dogs or sausages in the morning, and I tell her that I’m a creature of habit and don’t like changes. Even now, with my own family, I still have the same breakfast. I believe that until the day I die, I’ll most likely stick to this routine. I’ve read that having fewer decisions to make in life is better, and for me, breakfast is one of those decisions I’ve chosen not to think about. So, it’s always sausage, rice, and egg for breakfast.
  • I usually have a heavy breakfast. I tend to eat beef steak and eggs with rice. I prefer a high-protein meal because even when I’m full, I tend to get hungry easily. I believe my metabolism is quite fast. Since I have a lot of classes in the morning, I really need the energy. If I don’t eat a substantial meal for breakfast, I struggle to concentrate because I’m often hungry, and hunger affects my concentration.

2. Do you think breakfast is important?

  • Well, yes, but I understand why some people think breakfast isn’t important. Not everyone needs a big meal in the morning. Office workers, for example, don’t need a heavy meal like those who work in construction, who require more protein and carbohydrates. Breakfast is important, but if you’re just a blogger or doing a desk job, a cup of coffee and some biscuits might be enough. It’s not as crucial as some people think.
  • Yes, I believe breakfast is important. As a student, to be effective, we need to retain the knowledge we get. If we are hungry, it is unfortunate to see all the information we receive from our teachers go to waste. So, having breakfast is really important.

3. Are there any differences between the mornings of your childhood and now?

  • In a way, my mornings are almost the same because I’ve always had the habit of waking up early. As a child, I woke up at 5:30 AM. As an adult, it was around 4:30 AM, and recently, I started waking up around 6:30 AM. The main difference now is that I have more control over my schedule. As a creature of habit, I prefer a rigid routine. I wake up, do certain activities, and then follow a set schedule, just like when I was a child. I used to wake up and go to school; now I wake up and teach. So, my mornings are very similar to those of my childhood, especially considering my profession.
  • When I was a child, I often took a shower in the morning. Now, I tend to shower the night before because I want to sleep longer. Similarly, my breakfast used to be really nice and home-cooked by my mom, but now I sometimes eat cold food like cereal. In the past, I had much healthier and more substantial meals.

4. Would you like to change your morning routine?

  • I would say no because I am a creature of habit and don’t like change. For 36 years, I’ve managed to stick to my routine. There was a time when I had to change my routine, and it was terrible. It was hard to adjust, and I often got sick because of it. Once I went back to my old routine, I felt much better. After that, I decided not to change my routine, especially in the morning.
  • Currently, I’m happy with my morning routine. I have enough time for exercise and study, and I feel energized throughout the day. Therefore, I don’t see a reason to change it now.
